A leading contemporary Canadian artist, <\/strong>Charles Pachter is a painter, printmaker, sculptor, designer, historian, and lecturer.<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Born in Toronto Dec 30 1942,  he studied art history at the University of Toronto, French literature at the Sorbonne, and painting and graphics at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

His work has been exhibited at the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Royal Ontario Museum, and the McMichael Gallery.<\/strong>
He is represented in public and private collections throughout Canada, and internationally. He has held solo exhibitions in France, Germany, Japan, the UK, India, and Bangladesh.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He worked at Expo 67 in Montreal supervising the installation of 60 contemporary sculptures from around the world. He taught printmaking at the University of Calgary in 1969-70.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He spearheaded Toronto\u2019s Queen Street West revival in the 1970s and 80s by restoring 20 old buildings into facilities for arts usage.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is an Officer of the Order of Canada, a Chevalier of France\u2019s Order of Arts and Letters, and a recipient of the Order of Ontario<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He holds honorary doctorates from Brock University, OCAD University,  the University of Toronto , and Lakehead University.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has been awarded the Queen\u2019s Golden and Diamond Jubilee medals<\/strong>, and the
King Charles III Coronation medal. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

His images of the queen, moose, and maple leaf flag are icons of Canadian contemporary art.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

McClelland & Stewart publications include an illustrated book on his life and work,  CHARLES PACHTER<\/em> by Bogomila Welsh-Ovcharov, 1992.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

His murals of Hockey Knights in Canada, <\/em>installed in 1985,<\/em> can be seen in Toronto\u2019s College Subway Station.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Pachter lives and works in downtown Toronto in an award-winning studio, gallery, and residence designed by Canadian architect Stephen Teeple. His work is on permanent display here.  From 2019-21 the one-storey  building at the rear was demolished and was replaced by a new 2.5 storey wing designed by architect Lia Maston.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

His works are also displayed in MOFO \u2013Moose Factory of Orillia- his second home and studio compound in the heart of the historic Ontario home town of Steven Leacock<\/mark>, <\/a>Elizabeth Wyn Wood<\/mark><\/a>, Franklin Carmichael<\/mark><\/a>,  and Gordon Lightfoot<\/mark>.<\/a><\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He lives and works in his winter home and studio in Ajijic, Mexico. <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

His paintings are in the Portrait Gallery of Canada, the Canadian Embassy in Washington, Canada House in London, the Parliament Buildings, the Prime Minister\u2019s residence, and the Embassy of France in Ottawa.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recent solo exhibitions include at the Charterhouse in London, 2016 and a retrospective, \u201cQuintessential Canadian\u201d, <\/strong>at the Bangladesh National Museum in Dhaka, \\2018.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pachter\u2019s steel and granite moose sculptures have been installed across Canada.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

His best selling children\u2019s books, M is for Moose<\/em> and Canada Counts<\/em>, <\/strong>
and The Illustrated Journals of Susanna Moodie<\/em>, his acclaimed collaboration with poet Margaret Atwood, are published by Cormorant Books, Toronto.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
